“Lalin”: Rebel in Silence
Three-act Narrative: The Path to Awakening under the Shackles of Tradition
At the beginning of the story, the camera slowly sweeps over the conservative countryside, outlining Lalin's survival picture. The earnest expectations of her family and the traditional arrangements passed down through generations enveloped her like an invisible giant net. When the news of her pregnancy struck like thunder, her calm appearance shattered with a thunderclap. She was forced to confront reality head-on, and the balance of her inner choice began to shake violently. In the middle of the story, Lalin chooses to hide and escape, walking alone in the darkness, yet also seeking a way out in her struggles. It was not until the final chapter of the story that she finally gathered the courage to face the predicament and make a crucial choice. The gears of fate and the emotions in her heart turned along a new trajectory together.
2. Triggering event: An unintended pregnancy disrupts the balance of life
The moment of pregnancy, it's like a huge rock thrown into the lake, creating thousands of ripples. From then on, everything that Lalin was familiar with was overturned. Her once uneventful life came to an abrupt end, and the true story began amid chaos and confusion.
3. Midpoint turning point: Moving from living alone to independence
Lalin resolutely left her familiar home and raised her children alone. This seemingly insignificant step is actually a big step for her towards independence, symbolizing her longing and pursuit of freedom and autonomy.
4. Climax scene: A turning point in the fate of hospital delivery
The scene of childbirth in the hospital, with its emotional tension at its peak, becomes the most symbolic moment in the entire film. Amidst the interweaving of pain and hope, Lalin's life, destiny and identity were completely reshaped, completing a transformation from being bound to awakening.
5. Theme Discussion: Seeking the Voice and Dignity of Women in Silence
This film profoundly demonstrates how women, under the shackles of tradition, accumulate strength in silence, bravely pursue their own voices and dignity, and write their own chapters of life.
Everything Everywhere All at Once: Finding Love in Chaos
Three-act Narrative: Emotional Redemption in the Multiverse
The story begins by presenting the daily life of an ordinary immigrant family, which is trivial and mundane. However, a sudden "multiverse crisis" hit like a storm, instantly shattering the tranquility. The protagonist, Xiulian, is trapped in a bizarre and chaotic time travel, seeking a "better self" in different universes, but gradually gets lost outside of reality in the process. It was not until she suddenly realized that the crux of the problem did not lie in the vast universe, but in mending her relationship with her daughter and facing her true self that the story took a profound turn. Ultimately, Xiulian let go of her evasion and embraced life with tenderness and tolerance, successfully rebuilding the warm haven of her family.
2. Trigger event: The multiverse crisis has arrived
The husband was possessed by consciousness from another universe and told Xiulian that she was the only hope to save the multiverse. From this moment on, reality and illusion interweave and entwine, and the thrilling and exciting plot officially unfolds.
3. Midpoint turning point: Confronting the philosophical predicament of nothingness
Facing Jobu Tupaki, Xiulian fell into deep doubt about the meaning of life and even wanted to give up at one point. This stage becomes a crucial turning point in the emotional and philosophical thinking of the entire film, evoking the audience's resonance and reflection on the meaning of existence.
4. Climax scene: Acceptance leads to self-redemption
At the end of the chaotic universe, Xiulian finally realized that the true meaning of life is not to become a perfect self, but to learn to understand and accept the people around her. Not only did she summon her daughter back, but she also found her lost self, achieving a dual redemption both emotionally and spiritually.
5. Theme Discussion: Reconstructing the Meaning of Love in the Absurd
No matter how absurd reality is and how chaotic life is, we always have the right to choose. Choosing love, choosing each other, and reconstructing meaning in the fragments of life - this is the warm and resolute power conveyed by the film.

Exercise 2

Storyboard
The storyboard is a visual blueprint for film and television creation, presenting images in an orderly manner in the form of comic strips. It uses illustrations to mark the shots, character movements, dialogues, as well as details such as special effects and sound effects, assisting the main creators in rehearsing the visual effects.
As an important part of the pre-production, the storyboard can unify the creative ideas and plan the shooting content in advance. Creators can take this opportunity to try different visual solutions, predict and solve potential problems, and significantly save shooting time and costs.

week4

Film production is mainly divided into three stages:
1. Preliminary preparation
Planning: Finalizing the script, drawing storyboards, and designing shots.
Team formation: Select actors and crew members (director, cinematographer, art director, etc.).
Preparation: scouting locations, setting up locations, making budgets and shooting plans.
2. Real shooting stage
Shoot as planned: Guide the scene with storyboards and Call sheets.
Teamwork: Coordination among lighting, photography and actors, and taking more spare shots (Take).
3. Post-production
Editing: Rough cut → Fine cut → final cut, adjust the pace.
Sound effects: Add background music, sound effects and dubbing.
Special effects: Color grading, compositing CGI (such as green screen shots).
Finished product: Produce subtitles and opening and closing credits.

The film production team is composed of professionals with their respective duties, who jointly promote the completion of the project. The following are the core members and their main responsibilities:
1. Director
Coordinate the overall situation to ensure the implementation of creative ideas. Guide the actors' performances, design scene scheduling, and collaborate with the photography and art teams to control the visual style and narrative tone of the film.
2. Producer
Be responsible for the project logistics and finance. Coordinate funds, form a team, plan the shooting schedule and venue to ensure the project is completed on time and within budget.
3. cinematographer (DP/Cinematographer
Shape the aesthetic of the picture. Work with the director to select the photography equipment, lenses and lighting plans, and convey the emotions of the scene through light and shadow composition (such as creating a tense atmosphere with dark tones).
4. Art Director (Production Designer)
Build the visual world. Design scenes, costumes and props to ensure a consistent style (such as futuristic scenes in science fiction films or retro costumes in historical films).
5. Sound Designer
Control the audio effect. Record/edit dialogues, ambient sounds and sound effects to create an immersive experience in combination with the visuals (such as enhancing footsteps to highlight tension).
6. Editor
Edit the narrative structure. Integrate the materials into a smooth story, adjust the rhythm and mood (such as using quick clips to enhance the tension of the action scenes), and collaborate with the director and the sound effect team to optimize the final product.

Other supporting roles: Grips, Gaffers, makeup artists, special effects coordinators, etc., all work together to ensure the smooth progress of the shooting.

week5

** Mise en Scene ** originated from French, originally referring to "stage arrangement", and is now used in visual narratives such as film, television, and drama. It refers to the combination and presentation of all visual elements within a scene, conveying emotions, narratives, and symbolic meanings through meticulous arrangement.
Analysis of Core Elements
Scene and Time and Space
Physical space: The environment in which the story takes place (such as a cramped apartment, an empty wilderness).
The background of the era: It is reflected through the design of costumes, props and scenes (for example, retro clothing implies the setting of the era).
2. Props and items
Functional props drive the plot (such as key physical evidence in suspense films), while symbolic props convey metaphors (such as withered flowers hinting at the fate of characters).
3. Clothing and makeup
The character's dress reflects their identity, personality or psychological state (for example, a black suit symbolizes authority, and torn clothes suggest being down and out).
4. Application of Light and shadow
Create an atmosphere through the contrast of light and shade and tones (for example, cool tones convey a sense of loneliness, and warm light highlights a cozy scene).
5. Composition and Camera Language
The positional relationship of the elements in the picture (such as low-angle shots highlighting the authority of the characters), and the choice of shot size (close-ups enhancing emotions, panoramic shots presenting the environment).
6. Color tone
Color matching conveys emotions (red symbolizes conflict and blue implies melancholy) or themes (such as the pinkish-purple tone of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" enhancing the fairy-tale feel).
7. Spatial Relationship
The distance between characters implies closeness (close distance shows intimacy, while long distance intensifies estrangement), and the placement of objects highlights the dynamics of power (such as the person in the high position being at the center of the picture).

Summary: Scene arrangement is the "invisible language" of visual narrative. Through the synergy of multiple elements, it enables the audience to directly experience the profound connotation of the story.
