1.Lecture

week1:This paper focuses on the comparison of design and the Lattice theory, and explains several principles of Gestalt theory, including similarity principle, continuity principle, closing principle, proximity principle, figure/background principle, symmetry and agreement coherence

week2:It focuses on the types of balance, the golden ratio, the rule of thirds, etc. In the types of balance, including balance and imbalance, and the golden ratio is used in architecture, painting and design to create visual balance, harmony and structure, enhance the appeal of design and more eye-catching, the rule of thirds is a composition guide, used to add vitality to design, photography, film or painting.

2.Task1

1. Design principles

1. Gestalt theory

Our brain organizes what we see, and when we see an incomplete shape, our brain completes it into a complete shape

Figure 2.1.1 Gestalt 2025 2.13
When we see this kind of figure, we arrange the background and figure in the order of the back and forth to get two different shapes or deconstructions

2.Compare

Contrast will make people ignore the same pattern and naturally see different ones

3.Emphasis

A point that can be noticed with one stroke in a picture

4.Balance

Balance has a sense of complementing each other

5.Repetition

Design elements, such as shapes, colors, patterns, lines, text, etc., are repeated many times. These repeating elements can be exactly the same, or they can be slightly altered while maintaining the basic characteristics

6.Movement

Use the changes and combinations of graphics, lines, colors and other elements to visually create the illusion that objects are moving or have a movement trend. Through the clever design of the layout, the eyes are guided to move in the work according to a specific path, thus creating visual "movement".

7.Harmony & Unity

The coordination and balance between the various elements in the design creates a sense of visual comfort and consistency. The interaction of all elements forms a complete and cohesive whole. It emphasizes the integrity of the design so that the viewer can clearly perceive the theme and intent of the design.

8.Symbol
A visual element that conveys a specific meaning, concept, or information through simplified and abstract graphics or forms. Symbolic design aims to quickly convey complex ideas or information in a concise and easily recognizable form, often transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Type: archival inks

Illustrator and Designer from the wild prairies of Wisconsin's Driftless region. Inspired by traditional Japanese and Chinese paintings, antiques, fantasy and folk-tales.

Due to the use of monochrome system, the overall gives a calm, deep, mysterious feeling, similar to science fiction or fantasy style. This color scheme is reminiscent of the night sky, the universe, and the unknown future. The main body of the picture is a huge and incandescent meteor, with a strong light falling from the sky, the track is full of speed, giving people a shocking visual impact.

3.Feedback

Week 2

Specific feedback:The homework was not finished in time due to my reasons

General feedback:no

Week 3

Specific feedback:Choose a picture for further understanding and explain the picture

General feedback:
My understanding of pictures is not comprehensive and many of the design principles applied are not correct, so I should listen carefully when explaining students' homework to teachers

4.Reflections

Experience:I didn't understand the application of design principles at first, and then I changed the picture I chose

Observation:
Van Gogh's work is a little too difficult and his use of design principles is a little hard for me to understand

Findings:
I think this picture will be more obvious, and I also like the starry sky, meteors are beautiful and dangerous
